Mississippi State Bulldogs vs Missouri Tigers Thursday College Football Preview & Prediction

CFB Preview: Mississippi State Bulldogs vs Missouri Tigers

Written By David Hess (Follow me on Twitter @DavidHess311)

When: 9:00 PM ET, Thursday, November 5, 2015
Where: Faurot Field in Columbia, Missouri
Televised: ESPN

Odds:  The game opened with Mississippi State as 7.5 point favorites and it has pretty much stayed the same all week, while the OU line has been bet up to 43 from 39.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are 6-2 on the year, but just 2-2 in the SEC. They come off a three game hoe stand, in which they scored 42 or more in all three games, while allowing 20 or less in all three. Here's the catch. Their last three games have been vs Troy, La Tech and Kentucky. Not murderer's row and neither is Missouri, but the Tigers do know how to play defense and those teams don't. Mississippi State has scored 35.1 ppg overall, but just 23.98 ppg in SEC play. Defensively they have allowed a solid 17.8 ppg overall and 19 ppg in SEC play. The Bulldogs have really played much better outside their conference than inside it it and they will face a tough defense in this one.

The Missouri Tigers are not having a good year. Yes they are 4-4 overall, but just 1-34 in the SEC and the main culprit is an offense that couldn't score even if they were playing 11 on 7. This is a bad offense that comes on having score just 12 points total on their last 3 games. They are ranked 126th in the nation in total offense and 127th in scoring offense, putting up just 14.9 ppg. The thing that is keeping them afloat right now is their defense that has been stellar, ranking 6th overall, 6th vs the pass and 3rd in points allowed (12.5 ppg). If this was just an average defense then this team might have one ot two wins at most.

I really can't understand why the line has gone up in this one. Missouri can't score, while on defense they don't allow squat. So far their SEC games have put up 34 points or less in all 5 games and the last two have seen just 15 and 13 points being scored. Mississippi State has played some higher scoring games of late, but they also have played a 17-9 game vs Auburn and a 21-19 game vs LSU. The Bulldogs offense has been good overall, but in 3 SEC games vs teams not named Kentucky they have averaged just 17.7 ppg and have scored just 17 points in each of their two roadies in the SEC, while Missouri has averaged just 9.8 ppg in their 5 SEC games. Points will not come easily here in what should be a real yawner of a game.

Mississippi State Bulldogs vs Texas A&M Aggies College Football Preview & Pick

Mississippi State Bulldogs vs Texas A&M Aggies

Written By David Hess (Follow me on Twitter @DavidHess311)

When: 7:30 PM ET, Saturday, October 3, 2015
Where: Kyle Field in College Station, Texas
Televised: SEC Network

Odds:  The line opened up with Texas A&M listed as 5.5 point favorites and it is still at 5.5, while the OU Line has risen from 56.5 to 63.

Mississippi State- The Bulldogs come into this game at 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the SEC. Their first SEC game was a tight one as they lost 21-19 at home to LSU, in a game that they had every chance to win. Last week their defense played very well again in a 17-9 win on the road vs Auburn. The Tigers have had some offensive woes in the early going, which prompted the bench of their QB. Sean White did a decent job and the Tigers did outgain Mississippi State by 60 yards in the game, but still came out on the short end of the score. What is troubling for the Bulldogs is that they allowed 201 yards rushing to Auburn and 266 yards on the ground to LSU. Now they face a solid A&M ground attack that churns out 186 ypg. The Bulldogs offense has been very good vs on-conference opponents, but vs SEC defense sthat have put up just 352 ypg and 18 ppg so far. That is troubling also as they head to this game, because they will need to score plenty if they want to win this game.

Texas A&M- The Aggies come into this game at 4-0 on the year, which includes a 21 point home win over Arizona State and a 7 point road in over Arkansas last week in OT. The Arkansas gae was their toughest test so far and they passed, but still they were outgained by 34 yards in the contest, outfirstdowned by 8 and allowed 252 yards rushing. The offense has not been a problem at all for the Aggies this year so far as they have put up 41.5 ppg om the year, while defensively they have been decent, allowing just 367 ypg and 22 ppg so far. They have struggled a bit vs the run, allowing 189 ypg on the ground, but that may not come into play here all that much as the Bulldogs are more of a passing team. The Aggies will be looking for some revenge in this game after losing 48-31 last year in Starkville.

I don't agree with this line move on the total, especially with how well the Bulldogs have played defense so far. The Bulldogs have taken on 2 SEC offenses this year and has allowed a total of 30 point in those games. On offense they are not an explosive group this year and do look to run the ball. The Aggie defense is not great, but showed last week vs a good Arkansas defense that it can stop someone. The Aggies have allowed just 22 ppg, while The Bulldogs have allowed 14.8 ppg thus far. I see more defense than offense in this game.

LSU Tigers vs Mississippi State Bulldogs Betting Preview & Free Pick

CFB Preview: LSU Tigers vs Mississippi State Bulldogs

Written By David Hess (Follow me on Twitter @DavidHess311)

When: 9:15 PM ET, Saturday, September 12, 2015
Where: Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Mississippi
Televised: ESPN

Odds: The line opened with LSU as 2.5 point favorites and it has been bet up to -5 in some spots. The OU line opened at 48 and has been bet up to 50.

The LSU Tigers had a mediocre 2014, in which they went just 8-5 and had their season end with a 31-28 loss to Notre Dame in the Music City Bowl. This year's team looks to be much improved with 15 starters back and should battle Alabama for the top spot in the West, This team is deep and very talented and will be a factor this year. The offense has 9 starters back from last and should put up more than the 27.6 ppg they averaged a year ago. Defensively they allowed just 17.5 ppg last year and wit 6 starers and a solid crop of incoming frosh I see this defense being just as stingy. I fully expect the Tigers to reach double digits in win this year, but winning the west may be tough as they do have to travel to Alabama in November. Still watch out for this team.

Mississippi State opened their Season with a 34-16 road win over Southern Miss. It was not a dominant performance as they outgained the Golden Eagles by just 29 yards in the game. That has to be a bit disappointing for the Bulldogs as Southern Miss has gone just 4-32 the last 3 years. Mississippi State went 10-3 last year and at 1 point they were ranked 1st in the nation, but they lost 3 of their last 4 games, including losing the Orange Bowl to Georgia Tech. This is a team that will struggle this year as they have just 7 starers back from that team and are rated as the 93rd most experienced team in the nation. The do have Dak Prescott back at QB, who is rated as the best QB in the SEC and he does have their top 2 WRs back, but they did lose top RB Josh Robinson, who ran for 1209 yards and 11 TDs and their OL is a mess as it rates 12th in the SEC. The Defense does bring back 5 of their top 7 tacklers from last year, but on 3 starters return to this group. They will be weaker on that side of the ball this year. This team could go from being #1 in the nation at one point last year to the bottom of the SEC West this year.

[306] LSU -5 over Mississippi State
I like the Tigers here. They are the far more experienced team and they are clearly stronger on both sides of the ball, plus they have revenge on their minds from last years 5 point home loss to the Bulldogs. The Tigers also have the added advantage here of having this game as their first game of the year. They have had all summer to think about this game, while Mississippi State had to prepare for Southern Miss and then the Tigers. LSU does have Auburn on deck, but this is their Conference opener so they should be fully focused for it, plus they are 4-1 ATS the last 5 in this series. It all adds up to the Tigers winning by at least a TD in this one.
