Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints Thursday Night Football Preview & Free Pick

NFL Preview: Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints

Written By David Hess (Follow me on Twitter @DavidHess311)

When: 8:30 PM ET, Thursday, October 15, 2015
Where: Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana
Televised: CBS/ NFL Network

Odds: Atlanta opened up as 3 point favorites and it has been bet up a little to -3.5. The OU line opened up at 51 and has also been bet up slightly to 51.5.

The Atlanta Falcons had a miserable season a year ago and Dan Quinn was brought in to turn things around. So far so good as they come in with a perfect 5-0 mark on the year. The offense has been outstanding and shows just how strong this offense can be when healthy. The Falcons come in ranked 4th in total yards this year, 8th in passing and 3rd in scoring (32.4 ppg). Dan Quinn was defensive coordinator at Seattle and he was supposed to change the defense and he has to a point, but they still rank 20th in yards allowed and 29th vs the pass. The Pass defense really hasn't improved much from last year's group that was last in the league. Still they are 5-0 this year, which is just 1 win less than they had all last year.

New Orleans comes in struggling as they are just 1-4 on the year, with their lone win being in OT vs Dallas. This is not a team that is playing all that well right now and for them it starts with a defense that ranks dead last in the league in yards allowed, 23rd vs the pass, 30th vs the run and 30th in points allowed (28.6 ppg). This is a bad defense and facing this Atlanta offense will not make things better on them. The offense has been moving the ball for the Saints as they rank 7th in total yards and 3rd in passing, but they just have had problems scoring as they have put up just 20.6 ppg, which is 21st in the league. They are 1-4 for a reason as they have issues on both sides of the ball right now.

Have to go with the Falcons in this game. It is really hard to see the Saints pathetic pass defense keeping one of the best aerial attacks in the league under wraps. The Falcons will be able to score a bunch on this team and while the Saints have been able to move the ball they have come up with the mental errors at the wrong time that keeps them out of the endzone. The Falcons are 4-1 the last 5 meetings in this series and I say they pick up another spread win here vs a team tat just won't be able to stop them.

Dallas Cowboys vs New Orleans Saints Sunday Night Football Betting Preview & Pick

NFL Preview: Dallas Cowboys vs New Orleans Saints

Written By David Hess (Follow me on Twitter @DavidHess311)

When: 8:30 PM ET, Sunday, October 4, 2015
Where: Mercedes- Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana
Televised: NBC

Odds: The line is at New Orleans -3, while the Total currently sits at 48.

The Dallas Cowboys come in off a bad loss to Atlanta in which they built a nice 14-0 lead early, only to lose the game by a score of 39-28. One the Atlanta offense got rolling they were very tough to stop, plus it didn’t’ help the Cowboys by the fact that both Bryant and Romo were out for that game. Both will be out here as well. The Cowboys running game really needs to improve or it will be a long season for them. Last year their run game was able to control the game and the clock, which masked their defensive deficiencies. This year so far that ground attack ranks 16th in the league. They will really be up against it vs the good defenses in the league and so far they haven’t faced one and won’t again this week. Still their offense took a couple of hits with the losses of Bryant and Romo and they could throw for just 220 yards last week vs a suspect atlanta defense. Dallas could be in trouble this year as their defense isn’t that great and they offense can’t control the game like it used to.

The New Orleans Saints had issues of their own last week as they played without QB Drew Brees. Still, Luke McCown had a very nice day as he hit 31 of 38 passes for 310 yards. The downfall was that he had 1 pick and no TDs in the 27-22 loss at Carolina. The Saints are now in trouble as they are 0-3 to start the year and that includes an embarrassing 7 point home loss to Tampa Bay in week 2, when the Saints were double digit favorite. Making the playoffs after an 0-3 start is very hard to do, but luckily for the Saints they do reside in the weak NFC South, so anything is possible. The Saints are 4th in the league in passing, but hey are averaging just 20 ppg, which is 20th in the league. The bigger issue is their defense that ranks 29th in yards allowed overall, 26th vs the run and 27 in points allowed (28 ppg). Dallas may get their run game going in this one.

Going with the Saints in this one as they are extremely desperate and should have Drew Brees back under center. Even if he is not there Luke McCown looked very good last week vs a tougher defense than they will face in this one. Still t looks as if Brees will play and you can bet he will be out for blood here after an embarrassing home loss to Tampa in his last home game. he will also be looking for payback from last years 21 point road loss at he hands of Dallas.  The Dallas defense isn't all that good and their offense is still without Bryant and Romo. Last week they showed that their offense is still decent, but still they weren't able to put up enough points to win the game. That should happen here as well.

The Clincher: The Saints are 11-1 ATS when they are winless and playing a non-division team.

The Saints finally break their 6-game home losing streak with a win of at least a TD.

[478] Arizona Cardinals -2.5
Despite being from New Orleans and being a Saints fan, I just simply cannot back them on the road against the Arizona Cardinals. If you want to be a profitable sports bettor, you cannot bet on or against teams you like or dislike. When people ask me who my favorite NFL team is, I tell them the New Orleans Saints. However, I preface that by saying I am an NFL fan first, meaning I watch the sport no matter how good or bad the Saints are doing. Although it’s only preseason, the Saints were horrible going 0-4 and just not looking like a team that will compete in their own division, let alone the league. The Saints are a statistically deceiving team and having a home based sense on how this team will perform is an absolute huge factor. They are the 4th ranked team in yards per play, yet they are the ranked 31st in their opponents yards per play. I am high on the Cardinals this year and I believe they can and will compete for the NFC West. They had a very surprising season last year and although it may be surprising again to some, I expect the Cardinals to have another solid season.

NFL New England Patriots at New Orleans Saints Betting Odds & Free Pick

NFL Preseason Preview: New England Patriots at New Orleans Saints

Written By David Hess (Follow me on Twitter @DavidHess311)

When: 7:30 PM ET, Saturday, August 22, 2015
Where: Mercedes-Benz Superdome Louisiana, New Orleans
Televised: Locally

Odds: The Saints opened as 2 points favorites and it has been bet down to 1 or 1.5 in most shops. The O/U Line opened at 42 and has been bet up to 43.

The Patriots have had a ton of distractions in the offseason, mainly because of Deflate game and maybe some of that spilled over to their opening game vs the Packers in which they lost 22-11. It was a very lackluster effort from the team and it really looked like the offseason took had a negative impact on them. In that game the Pats could must just 117 yards through the air and were outgained by 195 yards overall. It was not a good game for them. Brady only played for 1 series and was 1-4 for just 10 yards. If Brady doesn’t play on opening day then it will be Garappolo getting the nod and while he was 20-30 for 159 yards, he also threw a pick and was sacked 7 times in the game. They will need a much better effort from him if he plays the first few games for the Pats and I would expect them to continue to give him a lot of time in the preseason.

The Saints are also coming off a loss in their first preseason game of the year, but they played a bit better than that Pats did in their game. New Orleans lost by a score of 30-27 to Baltimore, while outgaining the Ravens by 6 yards in the contest. Drew Brees didn’t [play in the game, but still the Saints had 266 yards passing, with Ryan Griffin leading the way with 112 yards and 1 TD on 10-17 passing. RB Khiry Robinson was really star of the offense as he has 35 yards rushing on 2 carries, plus 3 receptions for 37 yards and a TD. One this that the Saints really want to look at is thir depth in the secondary in this game. They really struggled last week and need to shore that up as the season approaches. The backups should get plenty of time as much of the starting secondary may be out for this one.

I can see this game going over the total. The Pats cannot be as bad as they were on offense last week and will be taking on a much weaker secondary than they did vs the Packers. I expect Brady to get a bit more reps here and Garappolo should have a better showing than he did last week. The Saints can score and Brees should get some time this week, but when he is not in there they still showed the ability to score. The Pats defense is solid as far as starters go, but they also lack good depth just like the Saints do. We’re going to go high in this one.
