Odds: St Louis is listed at -140, while the Giants are +130. The O/U line is at 7 O -120
This is an important series for the Giants as they look to stay in the race for a wildcard spot. Currently they stand 3.5 games behind the Cubs for that final spot. For the Cards they have the best record in baseball and have a 5 game lead over Pittsburgh in the NL Central. The Cards are 44-18 at home this year, but they have lost 4 of the last 5 games played here vs the Giants.
The pitching matchup for this game looks to be a solid one a Chris Heston will face off against Michael Wacha.
Chris Heston has pitched well for the Giants this year as he is 11-7 with a 3.38 ERA overall, while on the road he is 6-2, but with a high 4.45 ERA. He has struggled of late as he is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA in his last 3 starts. He has yet to face the Cards in his career.
Michael
Wacha is just one of the many solid pitchers that the Cards have this year. He
comes in with a 14-4 mark and a 2.93 ERA overall, while at home he has gone 6-2
with a 2.56 ERA. He comes in on a roll, going 2-0 with an 0.90 ERA in his last
3 starts. Michael faced the Giants once in his career (last year) and he pitched
6 shutout innings on just 3 hits in a 2-0 Cardinals win.
Chris Heston has struggled on the road with his ERA, posting a 4.45 ERA away from home. He is 6-2 in those starts, but beating St Louis ay home is no easy task for any team or pitcher. The Cards are an astounding 44-18 at home this year and they have gone 40-11 in their last 51 homes games vs a rightie. They have also gone 21-6 in Wacha's last 27 starts overall and 17-5 n his last 22 home starts. It's tough enough to bet this team at home, but even tougher with Wacha on the mound. It's hard to ignore those stats, so I wont try.
