The Miami Hurricanes have had a solid season so far as they come in at 19-4 overall and have been ranked in or near the top 15 for most of the year. Miami now sits in a three-way tie for 2nd in the ACC, just one game behind Carolina, which makes this a must win game for them. Miami has won six of their last seven games in league play, but that on loss was on the road (at NC State) and they were crushed by 16 on that game. Miami has won three of the last four in the series, including taking a 13 point home win over the Noles earlier in the year. Miami has been a str4ong offensive team that year that comes in averaging 78 ppg (70th) on 47.9% shooting (27th) and they are 11th in the land at the charity stripe (76%). The Canes are not just an offensive team as they know how to play some defense as well, ranking 52nd in points allowed, giving up just 66.1 ppg, 102nd in defensive FG% overall and 92nd in three-point defense. Miami is a solid team at both ends of the floor and they rarely beat themselves, which will make them a very tough out in both the ACC Tournament and the Big Dance.

The Florida State Seminoles have had a solid season as well, but they are a mediocre 6-6 in the ACC so far. They are 8-2 on this floor and have beaten the likes of Clemson and Virginia at home, but also have lost to Pittsburgh and Carolina here as well. The Noles just had a four game win streak snapped, but how impressive was that win streak as three of the wins came vs NC State, Wake Forest and Boston College, who are all a combined 4-32 in ACC play.  Not great resume builders there. FSU has been a very solid offensive team tyhis year as they come in ranked 56th in scoring at 78.7 ppg and 76th in shooting overall (46.2%), but they struggle from long range, where they are 207th, hitting just 33.9% from long range. On defense they are not nearly as strong as Miami as they come in at 211 in points allowed at 73.1 ppg, while allowing teams to hit 43.6% of their shots overall (200th) and 34.6% from long range (190th). This is an average team at best and may make it to the big dance, but if they do it will probably be an early exit for them, just like it will be in the ACC Tournament.

[859] Miami +1 over Florida State
The Florida State Seminoles have had a solid season overall, but still they are just 6-6 in the ACC and four of their wins in conference play have come vs team with a combined 4-32 record in league play. In other words they haven’t beaten too many good teams in the ACC so far. They do own a win over Virginia on this floor, but I can’t see that happening here vs a solid Miami team that rarely beats itself, is playing to stay in the ACC race and has a huge edge on defense. The Dog is 4-1-1 the last six in this series, while the Noles are just 1-4 ATS in their last five games vs a team with a winning record, plus we note that Miami is 16-5-1 ATS in their last 22 games following a straight up win. Cane take a tight one here as their defense and excellent FT shooting helps them pull away late.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish comer in playing some good ball as they have won 5 of their last 6 games and are currently 6-3 in the ACC. Their lone loss over that stretch was a 15 point defeat at Syracuse, but they bounced back nicely with and 85-62 home win over Wake Forest on Sunday. Zach Auguste had 21 points in that game and one one of five players to score in double figures. Auguste also had 12 boards in the game as well. Fore the year the Irish have five player that score in double figures and are led by Demetrius Jackson’s 16.5 ppg, while Zach Auguste is 2nd at 14.0 ppg and he leads the team in rebounding at 10.1 rpg. The Irish come in at 61st in the nation in scoring at 79.9 ppg, 10th in shooting (49.6%) and 30th in three point shooting (38.6%). On defense they are 128th in points allowed (69.4 ppg), 142nd in defensive FG% (42.7%) and 336th in 3-point defense (38.6%). That part of their defense is really bad.

The Miami Hurricanes come in ranked 15th in the nation with a 1`6-4 mark overall and a 5-3 mark in the ACC. They have also gone a strong 10-1 on their home floor this year and are 4-0 in ACC home games. Miami comes in off a 85-69 loss at NC State, which was their 3rd loss in four ACC road games this year so far. Miami has been a solid defense this year, but not on this night as the Wolfpack hit 50.9% of their shots overall and 45.5% from long range, while the Canes shot under 40% for the game and were outrebounded 36-22. four Canes scored in double figures in the game and were led by Sheldon McClellan, who scored 18 points in the game. For the year the Canes have 4 players that average in double figures and are led by McClellan’s 16.4 ppg, while leading the team in rebounding is Tonye Jekiri at 9.8 rpg. The Canes check in at 64th in the nation in scoring at 78.8 ppg, 36th in shooting (47.5%) and 114th in three point shooting (36.0%). On defense they are 51st in points allowed (66.0 ppg), 93rd in defensive FG% (41.3%) and 101st in 3-point defense (32.8%).

[529] Notre Dame/ Miami Over 148.5
I expect this line to come down a bit more by game time, so if ya play the over ya might want to wait on it. Both of these teams have been excellent offensive teams and both really shoot the ball well, which should give us plenty of chances for points. Notre Dame will run and Miami has been known to run with team that play at that pace this year. The Canes are a solid defensive team, but the Irish have been able to score on just about anyone, while their defense is very suspect especially at defending the three-ball. I also expect a 6-6 point lead for one of the teams late and that should allow us to get into the foul game. This one has 150+ points written all over it.

Virginia Tech Hokies vs Miami Hurricanes College Football Betting Preview & Pick

Virginia Tech Hokies (3-3 SU, 3-3 ATS, 4-2-0 OU) vs Miami Hurricanes (3-2 SU, 3-2 ATS, 2-3-0 OU)
When: 3:30 PM ET, Saturday, October 17, 2015
Where: Sun Life Stadium In Miami Gardens, Florida
Lines: Miami -6
Total: 51.5

This is a big clash in the ACC between a couple of teams that need wins. Virginia Tech comes in off an impressive home win over NC State and they currently stand at 1-1 in the ACC. Miami is now 0-1 in the ACC after a hard fought 29-24 loss at Florida State on Saturday night. Both teams are supposed to be in the mix for the ACC’s Atlantic Division Title.
Michael Brewer was the starting QB for the Hokies to begin the year, be he was injured in game one vs the Buckeyes and it has been Brenden Motley’s team ever since. Brenden hasn’t put up eye popping number this year, but last week he hit 14 of 28 passes for 158 yards and threw three TD passes in the 28-13 Hokies win over NC State. Overall Brenden has hit just 55.8% of his passes for 1019 yards, with ten TD passes and 5 INT. He had been some heat for the struggles of the offense, but he came through vs the Wolfpack.
Brendan didn’t do it all in the win vs the Wolfpack as Isaiah Ford caught all three TD passes and Travon McMillian ran for 96 yards and 1 TD on just 11 carries. Overall the offense ranks 88th in total offense and 39th in scoring (31 ppg). The defense has been decent for the team this year as they rank 40th in yards allowed and 52nd in points allowed (22.3 ppg). One note is that Michael Brewer may be cleared to play his week at QB.
The Miami Hurricanes are off their yearly rivalry game with Florida State, and it wasn’t a happy ending for them. Florida State jumped out to the 14-3 lead in the game and Miami spent the whole game playing catchup. They finally did and took a 24-23 lead with 10 minutes to go in the game, only to have Florida State come right back for the 29-24 win.
The rushing numbers were the story of this game. Miami couldn’t get their ground attack going at all as they tan for a mere 20 yards in the game. On the other side it was a different story as Florida State piled up 248 yards on the ground and at 6.9 yards per pop. Their biggest problem was stopping FSU RB Dalvin Cook, who had 222 yards and 2 TDs in the game. Miami has been a solid offensive team this year, putting up 453.6 ypg of total offense and 34.4 ppg, while on defense they have allowed 383 ypg overall, 168.8 ypg on the ground and 23.2 ppg. Pretty average defensive numbers.

Trends
Virginia Tech is:
  • 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games in Miami
  • 10-4 the last 14 meetings overall
Miami is:
  • 5-11 ATS in their last 16 conference games
  • 2-8 ATS after allowing 280 yards or more passing.

Free College Football Pick: Virginia Tech +6

The Virginia Tech Hokies have had good success ATS in this series of late and are coming off a confidence building win over NC State. Miami comes in having lost two games in a row and their defense has really struggled in the last two games, especially vs the run and that should help the Hokies get going in this one, especially if Brewer gets the start, because he is a better runner at QB than Motley is. Miami has a strong offense, but the Virginia Tech defense is off their best game of that year and that confidence should spill over to this one. Virginia Tech is 1-1 in the ACC, while Miami is 0-2, yet Miami is the six point favorite here. I don’t think so. Va Tech gets the cover and just may win the game outright, especially if Brewer plays.

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Miami Hurricanes College Football Preview & Pick

CFB Preview: Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Miami Hurricanes

Written By David Hess (Follow me on Twitter @DavidHess311)

When: 3:30 PM ET, Saturday, September 19, 2015
Where: Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida
Televised: ABC Or ESPN 2

Odds: Miami opened as 5 points favorites and money has come in on the dog in this one so far and the Canes now are just 3.5 point favorites. The OU Line opened as 56.5 and has been bet up to 57.5.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have high hopes this year, especially with the hire of Mike Riley, who inherits a team that has 15 starters back from last year. This is a good team, but they didn’t start off on the right foot as BYU hit a hail mary to upset them in game 1. The Huskers lost 33-28 in that game and were outgained by 66 yards by the Cougars. Nebraska did bounce back in their next game vs South Alabama, beating the Jaguars by a score 48-9, while outgaining them by 229 yards in the game. Nebraska is usually a run first offense, but so far this year they have thrown for 311 ypg, while rushing for 192. This is now a more diversified offense that will make it tough for teams to stop. Their defense has 8 starters back and should improve over the 26 ppg they allowed last year.

Miami comes in at 2-0 on the year, beating Bethune Cookman 45-0 and Florida Atlantic 44-20. Miami has high hopes of competing for the ACC title, but it may be tough for them as they have just 10 starters back and must overtake both Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech, who look like they will be very solid this year, especially the Yellow Jackets. Miami still will be a good team this year, especially their defense, which has allowed just 234 ypg through two games. Offensively Miami has been balanced s far as they have averaged 210 ypg on the ground and 242 ypg through the air. They did really struggle with FAU in their last game, before eventually pulling ahead for the big 24 point win. If the start out slow in this game they could be in trouble.

[157] Nebraska/ Miami Under 57.5
Going to expect a low scoring game here. Miami is a solid defensive team and they should find a way to ground the Cornhuskers in this one. Nebraska is throwing the ball a little bit more this year, but the Miami pass defense looks very good so far, which means that Nebraska may have to turn to the run a bit more. The Miami offense is erratic and I see them struggling vs a very underrated Nebraska defense. This should be a tight game that is also lower scoring than is expected.
