We all won BIG the last time the Golden gophers played, at Iowa, and they almost came away with the road upsets, 71-75. Now they take on a struggling Melo Trimble (29% shooting in L4 games) and the Maryland Terrapins, who had their 28-game home winning streak snapped by 30th ranked Wisconsin Badgers, 57-71... this one was never close.
Let's take a look at the trend below:
The Golphers are only losing to B1G teams ranked 50 or better by an average score of 6pts:
02/14 #16 Iowa Away L by 4
02/10 #31 Michigan Home L by 8
01/30 #14 Indiana Away L by 6
01/27 #11 Purdue Home L by 4
01/20 #31 Michigan Away L by 5
01/16 #13 Indiana Home L by 7
01/02 #1 Michigan St Home L by 8
The gophers seem to play to their competition, or vice versa... the good teams overlook them and the other teams, struggling to make even the NIT.
Versus teams ranked worse than 50, they lose by an astonishing 17ppg.
02/04 #67 Northwestern Away L by 24
01/23 #110 Illinois Home L by 5
01/12 #74 Nebraska Away L by 25
01/09 #67 Northwestern Home L by 25
01/05 #127 Penn State Away L by 9
12/30 #61 Ohio State Away L by 15
Let's continue with the trend and take the Golphers as they have nothing to play for except pride, and their first B1G win of the season... this game, today, is their Superbowl.
Maryland looked lost on offense in their last game versus the Badgers. They went almost the entire first half without making a FG made(actually it was about 14minutes. Plus, they lost their starting C Diamond Stone to a one-game suspension for intentionally slamming Vito Brown's head into the floor.
Don't be surprised when the gophers get their first B1G win of the season

Minnesota +10*Ranking Explanation/FYI: I always use a predictive ranking model courtesy of teamrankings.com which is based upon an algorithm which includes RPI, SOS, margin of victory, and preseason expectations. Personally, I believe the AP ranking is antiquated, subjective, and very biased system, and therefore the antithesis of science.
