NFL Preview: Philadelphia Eagles vs New York Jets

Odds: The game started out as a pick, but was quickly bet up to New York -2.5. The OU Line for the game currently sits at 46.
The Philadelphia Eagles are in a world of trouble right now as they have started off the season with an 0-2 record. It’s gotten so bad that word is that Chip Kelly has filed a missing person report with the Philadelphia Police department for his missing offense. This offense was impressive last year and i really looked good in the preseason, but that is now a bit deceiving. It looks as if the Eagles miss LeSean McCoy. The Eagles rushed for 155 yards and 125 ypg the last 2 years, but so far through 2 games they have averaged just 35 ypg on the ground. That is just downright pathetic. Overall the Eagles have averaged just 321.5 ypg of offense after putting up 397 ypg last year. The defense for the Eagles has not been great either as they have allowed 377 ypg, including 270 ypg through the air. The defense was to be much improved this year, but so far they are putting up close to the same numbers that they did last year. Bottom line is the Eagles are in trouble right now and they must fix their issues quickly or the season will get away from them.
The New York Jets are surprising many in another way as they come into this game at 2-0, which includes a 20-7 win over the Colts on the road on Monday night. Despite the lopsided result on the scoreboard the Jets only outgained the Colts by 1 yard in the game. Last year the Jets defense was one of the worst in the league at causing turnovers, but last night they intercepted Luck 3 times and caused 2 fumbles in the win. it was the 2nd game in a row that the Jets caused 5 turnovers. The Jets have put up 25.5 ppg so far this year, but really their offense hasn’t looked all that good. With the field position they were given last night this team should have had more points than just 20. The Jets put up 326 ypg of offense last year and have increased that slightly to 338 ypg this year so far. The defense has been solid so far as they have allowed 332 ypg in their first two games and just 8.5 ppg. They have given up some yards, but the 10 turnovers have kept their opponents from scoring.

All joking aside about the Eagles offense, as I feel that they will find it this week vs a very tough Jets defense. The Eagles are in dire straits right now and you can bet that Chip will be looking to pullout all the stops with trick plays and such. I also look for his fast uptempo style of play to wear out this Jets defense that is playing on a short week. The Jets have surprised in the first two weeks of the season, but the fact is that they still are not a good team and still have a below offense, plus they can’t keep getting 5 turnovers each week.
Some solid trends really support the Eagles in this one. The Eagles are 11-1 ATS on the road after scoring 10 points or less, 8-1 ATS as dogs off a DD ATS loss in games 1-4 and 8-1 ATS off a div game in weeks 1-4 vs a team off a DD SU win.
This is desperation time for the Eagles and I feel they will respond in a big way.
