The Michigan State Spartans have had a very solid season as they come in at 11-1, with their lone loss being a 39-38 shootout at Nebraska a few weeks ago. Since that loss, Michigan State has really turned it on as they have won their last three games, which includes a 17-14 win at Ohio State and a 55-17 destruction of a good Penn State squad last week. The Spartans are rolling into this game. Also on their resume is a road win over Michigan and a 3 point home win over Oregon. The Spartans are led by QB Connor Cook, who missed the Ohio State game, but came back to help his team rout the Nitany Lions last week. He leads an offense that ranks 68th in total yards and 44th in scoring (33.4 ppg). The bread and butter of this Spartans team is their defense that ranks 27th in yards allowed and 23rd in points allowed, giving up just 21.1 ppg.
The Iowa Hawkeyes have really had a heck of a season as they are a perfect 12-0 and currently have the third spot in the NCAA Playoffs. If they win this game they will more than likely stay in the top 4. Their biggest wins of the year were a 10-6 win at Wisconsin and then a 28-20 win at home vs Nebraska to end the regular season. There is a bit of a concern following the Nebraska game as they were outgained by 183 yards in the game, while in their road game vs Wisconsin they were outgained by 99 yards. This has not really been a dominant team this year as they have just outgained their foes by an average of 72.6 ypg and really that isn’t good as they have faced a very weak schedule. The Hawkeyes rank 41st in the nation in scoring at 33.7, while they have allowed just 18.7 ppg, which is 15th in the nation.

[331] Michigan State -3.5 over Iowa
The Hawkeyes have had a big year, but they have played a weak schedule and have beaten just three bowl eligible teams all year. I feel that will hurt them in this game as the Spartans have been tested more. Michigan State has road wins over Michigan and Ohio State, plus they crushed Penn State at home and have a nice home win over Oregon, before the Ducks lost their QB. In all Michigan State has faced 8 bowl eligible teams and have won them all. The offenses are equal and Iowa has a slight edge on defense, but this Michigan State team is still the better team that has been tested more and should win this one by at least a TD.
