Odds: The Line opened with
Georgia Tech favored by 1 point and has been now bet up to Georgia Tech 2.5. The
OU line currently sits at 57.5.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
have gotten off to a 2-0 start this year, scoring 65 and 69 points in the
process, but taking on the Irish is a lot different than taking on Tulane and
Alcorn State. Georgia Tech piled up 562 ypg in the 2 wins, which include 457.5
ypg on the ground. Their triple option has been working to perfection this year
and that really makes them a dangerous team. This team has a real good chance
at making it to and winning the ACC title game this year, especially with how lackluster
Florida State looked last week. Making it harder for teams that face the
Jackets are when they have just one week to prepare for this type of offense,
which the Irish do this week. Georgia Tech will be a tough out for anyone his
year as their offense is nearly unstoppable, while their defense looks like it
will be very good as well.
The Irish have also started 2-0
this year, but their opponents have been much tougher as they faced Texas in
week 1 and then a very game Virginia squad on the road in week two. Now the bad
news for the Irish. In week 1 they lost their top RB in Folston and then last
week they lost their QB Malik Zaire as well. Both are lost for the season. This
was to be Kelly’s best team yet at Notre Dame, but now they have to rely on their
depth at two key offensive positions. Last week DeShone Kizer did come off the
bench to hit 8 of 12 passes for 92 yards, with 2 TDs including the go ahead TD
with under a minute to play in the game. Now he will have a full week to
prepare for this one and he will have to be on his game as the Irish will need
to score plenty of points to keep up with the Jackets in this one.
This should be a good game and
will not be the blowout that Georgia Tech has been involved with the last two
games as the Irish have a much tougher defense than the Jackets have faced so
far. Still having said that, it will be hard for the Irish to keep pace in this
game. Kizer was not ready for this and just won’t make the necessary plays for
the Irish to win the game. They do have a very good defense, but Tech will
score on anyone, which means that Notre Dame has to score plenty to keep pace.
With Zaire, maybe, but not with Kizer. I look for Tech to roll out of South
Bend with a big win for he program.
