The
Fighting Irish opened up as 10 point favorites and it has been bet up slightly
to 11.5. The OU Line was set at 51.5 and has been bet down to 47.5.
Well the Irish really made a
statement in their opening game vs Texas, as they blasted the Longhorns by a
score of 38-3. Notre Dame looked very efficient on offense behind QB Malik
Zaire, who was 19 of 22 for 313 yards and 3 TDs, with no picks. Turnovers have
been a problem at the QB spot for Notre Dame the last couple of years, but that
problem seems to have been fixed and remember he did do all that damage vs a
Texas defense that could be the best in the Big 12 by seasons end. The Irish
did suffer a big blow on offense when they lost RB Tarean Folston for the
season to an injury, but this RB corps was so deep that they shouldn’t miss a
beat this year. The defense for Notre Dame got all the preseason pub and thy
showed by holding Texas to just 163 yards of total offense and just 8 first
downs. Overall the Irish outgained Texas by 364 yards and outfirstdowned them
by 22 in the game. This is a complete team.
Virginia comes in off a road loss to
UCLA 24-16, in a game that they were outgained by 164 yards in. Virginia looks
like it will be one of the weakest teams in the ACC this year, so to only lose
by 18 at UCLA, which could win the PAC12 could be an accomplishment for this team.
The Cavaliers are in complete rebuild mode as they have just 10 starters back
and lose their QB, top 2 RBs, 2 of their top 3 WRs and 5 of their top 6
tacklers from last year. This is a team that is pretty weak on both sides of
the ball, but they do have something positive and that is the fact that Phil
Steele has their OL rated as 4th best in the ACC and their DL as second best.
They are strong in the trenches, but im not sure it will matter all that much
here vs the Irish.

[354] Notre Dame/ Virginia Under 47.5
Money has come in on the under and
that is the way to go here. Virginia put up 336 yards on UCLA and 16 points,
but that defense is nothing like the one they will face in this one. I just can’t
see them doing a lot of damage vs the Irish here. Notre Dame’s offense was very
good last week vs a tougher defense than the one they will see here, but once
the Irish get up big I expect them to call of the dogs and look to shorten the
rest of the game as they do have a big home game vs Georgia Tech on deck. Also
Im not sure Notre Dane will get as many turns with the ball as they did last
week vs Texas as Virginia does not run a hurry up offense. They will bleed the
clock. They have to as they know they can’t trade points with Notre Dame. Let’s
call for about 38 points in this one.
